My Favorite Toys - Learning Resources Playground Engineering & Design STEM Set

I bought this Playground Engineering & Design Set by Learning Resources a few years ago in Amazon for a present. I wanted something fun but very heavily STEM related for a 5 year old girl, and this seem like a great idea.

When she opened the present, she was fascinated to see a playground, and a bit disappointing when at opening the box she saw she had to build it :D That's ok, I told her it was part of the fun and I would help her. Once she started playing with it and realized she could build it however she wanted, combine the pieces however she felt, she was so excited.

We played for a long time, building the set, making the play people use the playground, undoing the set and redoing it again. Her younger sister either trying to add some extra pieces, or using the second play person to use the set. She was having fun and learning Engineering concepts without even knowing!

I love this play set, it's great quality, it's fun, it's very smartly created to let kid's creativity flow, and the price is on point. Three years after, whenever I need a new gift for a new kid I still come back to this one as one of my first options, and I'm just waiting for my son to reach the right age to buy it for him.

If you are looking for a fun STEM project for your 5-6 year old, give this one a chance, you won't regret it!

My Favorite Toys - National Geographic's Kinetic Sand

We bought National Geographic's Kinetic Sand a couple of months ago when we were looking for an easy solution to have a sand box inside the house without the mess! My first impression was how vivid the colors are and that it would provide as much fun for the parents as it would for our toddler :D After a lot of back and forth between mom, dad and toddler as to who got to play with the sand first, we decided it was only fair for the 3 year old to have fun first xD He loved that it came with different molds he could use to create things, and I loved how easily the sand came out from the molds while also keeping its shape (not to mention how easy it was to clean it from the floors when inevitably some of it ended up there). The sand was perfect, it helps my toddler practice the motor skills necessary to put the sand in the molds and take it out still intact, it has a good texture that satisfies his sensory needs, it shows him new shapes like pyramids, and it allows for free play where

Yesterday Was Bad, Today We Connect

Yesterday we had a bad afternoon and evening. As we tried to survive the last hour before going to bed, we all lost it. So much screaming, so much fighting. I went to the kitchen, grabbed the TV and hid it in the basement. A message to my 3 year old that TV was off limits, tomorrow there would be no TV. So, how can we survive working from home without the TV? We can't. I had no choice though. Toddlers are not meant to be in front of the TV, they crave connection with other people. Even when he is watching something, he is constantly asking me what I am doing (working) and why (to make money?). So I took the day off work and took him out the house. Not everyone has the privilege of taking days off work so I'm happy and blessed. This morning we kept fighting to make him eat breakfast and dressed but once we were on the car, everything was much better. We took a drive where out of nowhere he said "I like music mommy, I'm happy", and now we are seating nex

Daycare Activities - Teaching Edition

I love my daycare. My son is in a licensed daycare center close to home which we fell in love with the moment we saw. He had to be in a waitlist for almost a year but it was completely worth it.  Every day I went to pick him up before the pandemic, they would print and put on the walls what they had done that day or week and I loved every second of it. Now we can't go into the daycare but every Thursday or Friday we get a printed page of what the kids did that week! They tell you what they did, why they did it and what they are learning by doing that. It always gives me ideas of what we can do at home too, and it teaches me so much about how every little play is teaching our kids something :)
